Trent’s cricket season has burst into life with energy, optimism and a strong sense of continuity as a new chapter begins under the leadership of OT Connor Marshall (class of 2016).

Building on the outstanding foundations laid by Scott Boswell, who now takes his expertise to Lancashire County Cricket Club as a bowling coach, the programme is in excellent hands. Scott’s tenure established a thriving, competitive cricket culture at Trent, and his influence will continue to be felt throughout the season ahead.

Stepping into this legacy, Connor’s journey has come full circle. Returning to Trent not only as Head of Cricket but also as a mentor and role model, he brings with him valuable experience from Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. His connection to the school, combined with his professional insight, positions him perfectly to nurture the next generation of players and build on the programme’s recent success.

That promise has already been evident in an impressive start to the term. A successful pre-season at the Bradfield Cricket Festival set the tone, while pupils were further inspired by a visit from former England all-rounder Samit Patel, whose time with players brought invaluable insight and enthusiasm.  He shared his experience, offered practical insights and brought a real sense of inspiration from his professional career at Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

On the field, Trent have hit the ground running. A comfortable victory over Stamford School in the first round of the National T20 Cup, played in glorious sunshine with the school grounds looking at their very best, has given early momentum to what promises to be an exciting campaign.

With strong preparation, expert guidance and a renewed sense of purpose under Connor’s leadership, there is a real buzz around cricket at Trent. Attention is already beginning to turn to the much-anticipated Old Tridents XI v Trent College XI ‘Mitchell Cup’ match on 19 June, which will provide another opportunity to celebrate the school’s proud cricketing tradition while looking firmly to the future.
