A graduate of the Notts CCC Academy and a player for Papplewick Cricket Club, Byron has established himself as a formidable all-rounder, highly confident both at the crease and with the ball. His talent was showcased in the Notts Academy Spotlight ahead of the 2024 season, and he has continued to shine ever since.
In the months before he joined Trent College Sixth Form, in 2023, Byron enjoyed a standout season at Notts, taking 34 wickets and scoring five fifties in age-group cricket for the Outlaws. Among the highlights was his 3-13 against Northamptonshire in the U16 County Cup. The year also saw him make his Second XI debut, going on to feature several times in the Second Eleven Championship.
This season, Byron has been in ‘sparkling form’ for the Notts Under-18s, earning further Second XI appearances, which followed on from having made a Youth ODI appearance for England Under-19s in 2024, where he claimed figures of 1/23 from four overs.
Head of Trent College Cricket, Scott Boswell says: “It’s amazing news about Byron, signing a two- and half-year contract is incredible at such a young age”.
Byron’s cricket journey began long before joining Trent College, and everyone at Trent has been extremely proud to see him continue to flourish and to have played just a small part in his rise to the professional game.
Scott continued: “From the minute he arrived at Trent Byron bought into everything that Trent Cricket is about and gave 110% every time he played. He practised with purpose and had such an amazing presence about him, particularly in his innings against Repton where he scored 70 off around 20 balls! I am really pleased for him and delighted to have played just a small part in his journey”.
Speaking about the signing, Byron told us: “It’s been a dream to sign a contract with Nottinghamshire and I’m excited to see what the future brings. Trent has played a big part in the last two years, with great support from the coaches and staff, to allow me to have time off school to train and play for this to be achievable.”
His Notts signing also means he joins fellow OT Freddie McCann (Class of 2023), whose professional career has gone from strength to strength since signing with the County in February 2023. From earning selection for England u19s and his first England Lions call up, for the tour to South Africa in November 2024, he has extended his contract with Notts to the end of 2027 and is currently playing for Birmingham Phoenix in this summer’s edition of The Hundred.
Congratulates to Byron (below left) on his incredible achievement and we look forward to following his, and Freddie’s (below right), exciting progress in the professional game.
