I left Trent at the end of the Sixth Form in 1981, having reached the dizzying heights of School (Gown) Prefect which was quite an achievement considering during the vetting procedure the then incumbent Headmaster dismissed me as "lacking in academic and sporting prowess".
Although my Headmaster was unerringly accurate in his assessment, not being a "shrinking violet" I have never allowed my free-spirited eccentricities and idiosyncrasies to act as a barrier to entry into the mainstream corporate world, where I have had a thoroughly underwhelming career in advertising, public relations and marketing.
My best times in terms of fulfilling my creative playfulness were undoubtedly in the print and audio media at the Nottingham Evening Post as Sponsorship & Partnership Marketing Manager (2001-2008) and as a radio presenter on 107 Oak FM (1999-2001).
I am currently channeling my creativity, marketing experience and lifelong love of music and championing of vinyl into my online gifting website: MyFirstRecord.co.uk.
Incidentally my love of music began in 1974, the year I started at Trent. I loved nothing more than escaping into the world of music with my brand-new radio cassette recorder. After an inauspicious start, I grew into the role of Trident and despite lacking in cerebral and athletic spheres, I thoroughly embraced and enjoyed my time at Trent. So much so, that I now feel the time is right to put something back into the Trent College community as an Old Trident and am proud to serve the membership as a Trustee of the Old Tridents Society.
