Jo Slater, Development & Alumni Relations Manager, Trent College

I joined the school's Alumni Office in 2011, when my children were happily making their own memories in The Elms Junior School. Since then, my involvement in school life has grown in ways I couldn't have imagined. I became a Boarding House duty tutor in 2017 and in September 2023 I also took on the role of Sixth Form pastoral tutor, an opportunity that allows me to guide students as they prepare for life beyond school, and to understand first-hand what our future alumni value and need from both their school and the OT Society.

One of the great privileges of working at Trent is the environment; the 45-acre campus, with its calm, natural surroundings, creates a place where both pupils and staff can flourish. It has shaped so many of the experiences and relationships I’ve formed over the years.

I’ve always enjoyed meeting people and hearing their stories. Alumni relations offers this daily, moments that are inspiring, nostalgic and often very moving. It’s incredibly rewarding to help Old Tridents contribute to school life, whether through financial support, sharing their experiences or reconnecting with old friends.

My own children are now Old Tridents. My daughter (Class of 2019) will embark on a new and rewarding career in 2026, when she begins her MSc in Adult Nursing at NTU and my son (Class of 2023) is in his final year at Loughborough University studying Sport & Exercise Psychology, fitting in plenty of cricket along the way! Being both a member of staff and a parent of OTs gives me a perspective that is personal as well as professional.

It is a pleasure to work alongside the Trustees of the Old Tridents Society, supporting their efforts to further the interests of Trent College and strengthening the bond between former pupils and the school. With a deep respect for the school’s rich heritage, the foundation on which so much has been built, our work helps ensure that future generations can look ahead with confidence and optimism.
