Ali Wright, Teacher of Modern Languages & Head of Pupil Info Systems 1990-2011

I was born in Derby and raised in Sawley, just a couple of miles from Trent College. After completing A Levels at Long Eaton School, I gained a Joint Honours Degree in French and German at the University of Keele followed by a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages at the University of Nottingham.

My first teaching post was at Trent College, where I taught MFL for 21 years! During this time, I was Head of German and also Head of Pupil Information Systems. I left Trent in 2011 to follow my heart to Suffolk, where I now live just to the east of Ipswich with my partner, Mike.

After two years working as Head of Modern Foreign Languages at Holbrook Academy, I spent eight years as Head of Modern Foreign Languages at The Royal Hospital School in Holbrook, overlooking the majestic River Stour.

I retired from teaching at the end of the academic year 2020-21 and am now enjoying reigniting a passion for photography and learning how to use a camera properly!

I have a daughter, Elly (20), who is currently a student at the University of Derby. My sister Georgina (who has worked at Trent in the Music Department for over 15 years) and parents still live in Sawley, so I am a frequent visitor to this part of the world.

I consider myself incredibly fortunate in my teaching career to have been able to teach at some incredible schools, but as Trent College has always been my ‘first love’, I am both thrilled and excited to be able to contribute once again to the College as a Trustee of the Old Tridents Society.
