It was fantastic to welcome two members of our Old Tridents community back to school this week to speak to Year 13 students about their journeys since leaving the campus; one just a year ago, and one nearly a decade on.
The session, led by the school's Alumni Relations team, focused on the power of the Old Tridents network, not just for making career connections, but for staying part of a diverse and supportive community long after school ends.
First to speak was Andrii Kryvenko (Class of 2024), who offered a refreshingly honest account of his post-A Level experience. Just twelve months ago, he was sitting in the very same seats as the Year 13s. On results day, Andrii made a snap decision to go through Clearing, only to realise soon after that the course he had chosen wasn’t the right fit. Within two months, he had changed both course and university. His thoughtful reflections on managing expectations and having the confidence to change direction made a lasting impression on students, offering reassurance that there is no single 'right' path after school.
Andrii was followed by Dominic Kalantary (Class of 2015), current President of the Old Tridents Society. Dominic described how he started out in a career he believed he wanted, only to find it uninspiring. With fellow OT Peter Nathanail, he turned a side project into a rapidly growing and highly successful business. Dominic spoke powerfully about the role alumni connections played in his journey, including one introduction, made through the school’s alumni office while he was still a student, that ultimately led to a meeting with Mark Carney, then Governor of the Bank of England, and President Barack Obama.
The students were clearly inspired, with many staying behind afterwards to ask questions and hear more from both speakers. Sessions like these provide our pupils with real-world perspective, relatable role models, and a glimpse into the breadth of possibilities that lie ahead.
We are incredibly grateful to Andrii, Dominic, and to all the Old Tridents who continue to support the school so generously with their time, insight and experience.
This is a powerful reminder of the impact alumni connections can have in shaping, guiding and inspiring the next generation.
