Ten years after the original What’s My Line? concept was implemented at Trent College, we are excited to relaunch the event with a fresh new format designed to create even more meaningful conversations, networking and career exploration opportunities for our Year 10 students.
Since the first event in 2016, more than 200 Old Tridents and parents have participated, helping pupils broaden their understanding of career pathways, future opportunities and the world of work.
This year, our entire Year 10 cohort of more than 120 students will be off timetable for the afternoon to fully engage with the event and benefit from dedicated networking time with professionals from a wide range of industries.
The refreshed format will provide:
- More dedicated time for meaningful conversations with students
- Increased opportunities for networking and career fact-finding
- Exposure to a diverse range of professions and industries
- A relaxed and engaging environment for discussion
Subject to delegate participation, we are introducing breakout sessions focused on topics such as:
- What employers look for in young people
- Recruitment and interview experiences
- Career journeys and progression
- Skills for future success
For many students, events like this provide their very first opportunity to speak directly with professionals about careers and workplace experiences. These conversations help to broaden horizons, build confidence and inspire ambition.
There is also something particularly powerful about pupils having the opportunity to speak with former Trent College students. Hearing directly from Old Tridents who once sat in the same classrooms and followed the same educational journey makes career pathways feel more relatable, achievable and real. It gives students a genuine sense of connection and helps them see future possibilities in a much more personal and meaningful way.
What's My Line? is a high energy speed networking event giving pupils the opportunity to learn about the diverse range of jobs available to them in the future. Organised in small groups, pupils participate in rounds of quick fire questions with delegates as they move around the event exploring careers they perhaps would not otherwise have considered or even know exist.
Delegates are invited to arrive in time to enjoy a light lunch whilst taking the opportunity for their own networking, and a chance for some to say hello to their former teachers. There's very little preparation required from you, just bring your career insights and a willingness to talk with young people who are genuinely curious about the world of work.
We encourage all participants to become members of the Old Tridents Network online community. Only those who opt to 'register' during the event sign up process (i.e. not selecting to 'continue as a guest'), or who are already registered with the Old Tridents Network will appear in the Event Attendance information below.
